Creating a flexible outdoor living space for the family to enjoy together can be challenging. Especially when you live in Jefferson City. We famously deal will sloping yards—front to back and side to side. While these lots are challenging, there are ways to tame the slope.

These particular homeowners enjoy outdoor activities, and they needed space to play and space to relax with room for entertaining in between. Their large screened-in porch saw much use when the weather allowed, but when you stepped past it, there wasn’t much opportunity to use their private backyard.

They began thinking about how they could transform their yard and effectively use the terraced hillside to create multiple outdoor spaces. They dreamt of extending the entertaining and grill space from the screened porch. They wanted to create a large entertaining patio, where up to 30 family and friends could gather and enjoy the wooded surroundings. Finally, the kids needed their own place where they could run and play that was separate from the adult spaces but was close enough where they could keep an eye on them.

These were all great ideas, but they had no idea how to accomplish everything they wanted. Enter Stockman Stoneworks. They worked together to complete the tri-level patio design that included everything they wanted and more. For those chilly fall nights, the family can sit on the built-in bench and congregate around the fire pit. Lighting along the stone railing and overhead sets the mood for evening gatherings.

The third level is all about the children. A large playground with soft mulch underfoot creates a perfect area for play that is completely visible from the patio’s seating areas.

A custom Pilister fencing further ensures that neither children nor dogs sneak away.

On the backside of the house, a new retaining wall creates a gardening space that won’t erode away.

In the end, the homeowner greatly expanded their outdoor space, adding over 3,000 square feet to entertain in style. No longer a sloping expanse without a purpose, now their yard can truly grow with them as their family’s needs change. They can leave the responsibilities of the house inside and escape to their getaway in the backyard. It’s a little piece of heaven for their family!
