Lake Lotawana was a surprising hidden gem, tucked away in the suburbs of Kansas City. This charming little community sits along the banks of Lake Lotawana, the largest private lake in the Kansas City area. The community includes hundreds of lake front homes, some of which are permanent residences, while others are vacation homes. The lake is 480 acres of surface water with 27 miles of shoreline. Lake Lotawana hosts several waterfront restaurants and a marina. Residents enjoy various water activities including sailing regattas, speed boating, ice boating, pontoon boating, kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, tubing, swimming, fish tournaments and more.

The town itself is home to several locally owned, unique restaurants, bars, and shops. Here you’ll find all the best aspects of small-town America. Stopping by any of the local eateries is like walking into a friendly neighborhood where everyone knows everyone, and even if they don’t know you, they treat you as if they do. Conversation is light, friendly, and warm.

The cabin featured was perfectly appointed with easy access, light interiors, and all the commodities one would require for a weekend, plus many extras! Guests enjoy access to two hot tubs, a fenced area for your pup and a large deck that is perfect for lounging and enjoying the view. The hosts are gracious and happy to accommodate anything you need and are especially thoughtful when it comes to their four-legged guests!

While the cabin itself is small, it is very comfortable and inviting. The furniture was lovely and comfortable, and we never felt like we needed more space. In the bathroom, the hosts included a heated wall panel for a touch of luxury. It is evident that a lot of thought and planning went into every detail of this cozy retreat. Board games, an eclectic collection of vinyl, and ample supply of books line the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in the dining area. There’s something here for everyone.

A touch of class with a homey feel is just the right combination for the perfect weekend away. This quaint community is so charming and welcoming. If you’re given the opportunity to visit this perfect little oasis at Lake Lotawana, take full advantage! It will be a trip you won’t regret, no matter the time of year.
